Create a Policy
Overview
In Clavata.ai, a Policy defines the guidelines the system follows to analyze and classify content. Policies are fully customizable, written in clear, human-readable terms, and designed to classify various content types.
Clavata.ai offers a variety of Policy Templates to streamline getting started with Policy creation. These templates are pre-configured to address common issues like hate speech, harassment, violence, and vulgarity. These templates come with predefined Rules and Conditions to help you get started and can be fully tailored to meet your platform's specific needs.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Create from a Pre-Populated Template
- Log in to Clavata.ai.
- Navigate to the Manage Policies page.
- From the top right of the screen, click New Policy+
- To start, pick a template to use. Tip: click on template name to view the Policy prior to using it:
- Next, click Use this template from the top right of the screen.
- From the Policy editor, begin making any desired edits to the template to optimize it for your specific use case.
- Some examples of what you can edit within the templated Policy:
- Add, remove, or edit the Sections or Labels and Rules.
- Adjust which Conditions are used within Rules.
- Leave comments to help with referencability later, where needed.

- When you are done making edits to the Policy template, you can Run a Test to validate it is analyzing for the correct content.
- Based on your test results, make any necessary adjustments to the Policy.
- Then, click Save Version from the top right corner of the screen.
- When you are ready to publish your Policy, navigate back to the Manage Policies page.
- Click the 3-dot menu in-line with your Policy, then click Enable.
- Now, any content that is sent against the API will be analyzed in accordance with this Policy.
Create from a Blank Template
- Log in to Clavata.ai.
- Navigate to the Manage Policies page.
- From the top right of the screen, click New Policy+
- To start from blank template, ensure the Start blank option is selected:
- Click Use this template on the top right of the screen.
- The Policy editor will open.
- Begin by defining a Policy name, following the proper Policy syntax.
- Within your Policy, you can create one or multiple Sections or Labels.
- Within each Section, create your Rules. Rules are made up of a combination of Conditions and Signals.
- When you are done writing your Policy, you can Run a Test to validate it is properly analyzing content.
- Based on your test results, make any necessary adjustments to your Policy.
- When you are done, click Save Version from the top right corner of the screen.
Tip: click the double arrow icon at the bottom right of the Policy edit panel to expand the edit area.
Error Troubleshooting
When saving a Policy or running a test, you may encounter syntax errors. Here are some basic troubleshooting pointers to help resolve the error:
- If you receive an error message, it will point to the problem or provide generalized suggestions for correcting it.
- The Policy editor will automatically add the closing quotation mark or closing bracket for a Section. This will help prevent syntax errors, but as you write or edit your Policy, take care that the syntax is correct.
